Editing a client

Keep client info sharp and useful - names, contact details, address, emergency vet, notes - plus full control of any deposit held on their account.


Step-by-step

  1. Open the client
    Go to Clients & Pets → Clients, click a client’s name, then hit Edit.

  2. Update contact details
    Adjust First Name, Last Name, Phone, and Email. These drive reminders and receipts, so keep them accurate.

  3. Edit the address
    Start typing a postcode or street - autocomplete helps you fill it fast.
    On the right you’ll see a map preview for quick visual confirmation and handy directions for mobile groomers.

  4. Set contact preferences
    Choose the client’s Preferred Contact Method (Email or Text). Barkway uses this for reminders and notifications.

  5. Add an emergency vet (optional)
    Store their preferred vet so it’s on hand if you ever need it.

  6. Update notes
    Keep anything quirky or useful here - payment preferences, availability, anything future-you will thank you for.

  7. Manage deposits
    The Save a deposit on this client’s account control lets you fully manage deposits tied to the client, not a single booking.

    • Add or top up a deposit to keep on file.
    • Edit the amount if things change.
    • Refund or clear the deposit when you need to.
    • Deposits saved here will be auto-applied to future bookings based on your settings.
  8. Review registered pets
    The Pets registered to this client table shows their pets with quick links. Use Add Pet in the header to register a new one.

  9. Save
    Click Update Client. You’ll be returned to the Clients list so you can keep moving.


Header actions

  • Add Pet - quick shortcut to attach a new pet to this client.
  • Delete Client
    • Available only when the client has no pets.
    • If they do have pets, the button shows as disabled with a tooltip explaining why. Remove or reassign pets first if you really need to delete the client.

Tips

  • Grab at least one reliable contact method. No number, no SMS. No email, no email reminders.
  • Keep addresses current if you’re mobile - the map preview saves time on the road.
  • Client-level deposits are best for regulars - money on file that Barkway can apply intelligently to new bookings.
