Creating a pet

Pets are the stars of the show. Barkway keeps their profiles tidy with names, breeds, quirks, health info, and that all-important first photo.

Step-by-step

  1. Click Add Pet
From the Clients & Pets menu, choose Pets, then hit Add Pet.
(You can also add a pet directly while editing a client.)

  2. Upload a photo (optional)
Give the pet a profile picture straight away, or leave it blank and add one later.

    • Supports photo preview and replacement.
    • Handy for quick recognition when browsing your list.
  3. Enter the basics

    • Name (required)
    • Client (required - searchable dropdown so you can quickly find the right owner)
    • Breed(s) (use the live Breed Picker: search, select, or just type a new one and press Enter to add it)
    • Sex, Age, Weight (optional but useful for notes and records)
  4. Health & Medical Info (optional)

    • Temperament (e.g. “Friendly”, “Nervous”, or “Drama queen”)
    • Allergies (things to avoid: peanuts, shampoos, drama)
    • Medical Conditions (any ongoing or chronic issues to be aware of)
  5. Grooming & Vet Info (optional)

    • Last Groomed date for history
    • Microchip Number (a furry barcode if you need it)
    • Vet Info (name, number, address - for emergencies)
  6. Pet Notes (optional)
    Keep quirky details here. Examples:

    • “Hates the dryer”
    • “Needs a break halfway through nail trims”
    • “Loves blueberry facials”
  7. Save the pet

    • Save Pet takes you back to the Pets list.
    • Save & Create Booking jumps straight into creating their first appointment.

Extra features

  • Breed Picker
Search breeds instantly, select multiple, or add a brand new breed by typing and hitting Enter.
  • Client Search
Find the owner fast by typing their name, email, phone, or postcode.
  • Photo Upload
Each pet can have their own profile photo, with live preview and easy replacement.

Pro tips

  • Always link a pet to the right client - it keeps bookings and reminders flowing smoothly.
  • Use Pet Notes for quirks and behaviours; keep payment or scheduling info in Client Notes instead.
  • Add the Last Groomed date if you know it - this helps Barkway power recall reminders later.

🐾 With pets set up properly, Barkway becomes their digital profile - all their quirks, health info, and groom history tied together in one tidy record.
