Creating a booking

Bookings are the heartbeat of Barkway it’s where pets, clients, and services all meet. Here’s how to get one set up in just a few clicks (and maybe a tail wag or two).


Step-by-step

  1. Click New Booking
    From almost anywhere in the app, hit the New Booking button in the top navigation. That’s your gateway to a fresh appointment.

  2. Choose the pet
    Pick the pet you’ll be grooming. If the pet doesn’t exist yet, no problem you can create them on the top of the New Booking page. There’s even a handy Save & Create Booking button on the Pet creation screen so you don’t lose your flow.

  3. Pick the booking date and time
    Select when the magic happens. The Upcoming view shows you what’s free at a glance, so you don’t end up double-booked.

  4. Choose the assigned groomer
    Decide who’s holding the scissors (or clippers). By default, Barkway will assume it’s you but you can switch to another groomer if needed.

  5. Select services
    Tick off the services you’ll be providing. Barkway will do the heavy lifting:

    • Total price is calculated instantly
    • Duration updates automatically so you don’t overfill your calendar
  6. Add discount or deposit (optional)

    • Discounts: Reward loyalty, run a promo, or give a special deal.
    • Deposits: If you’ve set them up in your settings, Barkway will even suggest a default deposit amount for you.
  7. Save the booking
    Hit save, and boom the booking’s live in your schedule. 🎉

    If there’s a clash in your schedule, don’t sweat it. Barkway’s Smart Scheduler will flag it and suggest the next best slot.

Both discounts and deposits can be entered as a fixed amount or a percentage Barkway will do the maths for you.


Editing a booking

Editing a booking works exactly the same way as creating one — all the details are pre-filled, and you can update the pet, groomer, services, date, time, notes, discounts, or deposits.

If a deposit has already been paid and you change the services or price, the original deposit amount stays in place and remains marked as paid. This avoids confusion and keeps your payment records accurate.


Extra features

  • Automatic reminders
    Barkway can nudge your clients with an SMS or email so they don’t forget fewer no-shows, more happy pups.

  • Notes
    Add specific details for this booking (like “short trim, hates dryers”). Pet-related notes live on the Pet profile, but you can tweak them any time from the View Booking screen.

  • Invoices
    An invoice is automatically created once the booking is marked complete. You can download, email, or print it no paperwork headaches.

  • Keep client and pet profiles fresh it makes booking a breeze.
  • Discounts are fun, but don’t go wild they’re best for promos or loyal regulars.
  • Deposits are your best friend against cancellations and last-minute dropouts.
